About Us Once Upon a Sling opened April 1, 2010 to meet a need in central Illinois for quality carriers and babywearing education. Once Upon a Sling is a home based, debt-free business. When I had my first child in 2001, I had never heard of, or seen a mother wear her baby. It was only several months later, at a Le Leche League meeting that I first learned about "the sling". I tried on my sling and was finally able to accomplish something in my day while keeping the baby from screaming at me. We were blessed with a baby who knew he wanted to be held, a baby who really wanted to be close to mommy and see the world from mommy's view. He did not want to see the world from ground level. Babywearing really allowed me to be able to get out of the house. Believe it or not, there were not many choices at that time. I soon found the sling I had to not have the right fit, so I set out to make my own. This was accomplished and there was no turning back for this mom. Everywhere we went, the sling came with, but not the stroller. Walking in the mall Christmas shopping one year, I even convinced grandma to sling him and she commented on the comfort and ease.
When our second was born, I, of course, had to expand my babywearing gear. Several new varieties of baby carriers were on the market. And the same story goes for kid number 3 and 4. My husband thought I needed to join a Sling Wearers Anonymous. Instead, I will focus my love of babywearing to help others find the freedom of wearing your baby. I am just amazed at the selections, quality and beauty of baby carriers these days. The studies are coming out with many of the benefits of wearing your baby. It is my hope, that by being able to serve you in finding a way to wear your baby that best suits you, you may find the joys of holding your baby close, while being able to continue accomplishing all that you do.
